5 Best Places To Live In Mexico City
When thinking of Mexico most of us imagine white sand beaches, live mariachi at the local bar, and $1 beers at the nearest Oxxo. We rarely ever desire exploring a city 8,500 feet above sea level. After being lucky enough to spend 3 months in Mexico City and immerse myself in this vibrant and unique city, I can confidently tell you this city is unlike any other city I have ever visited.
Mexico City was nowhere on my radar while I was traveling the southern region of Mexico. I wanted to be in a bikini all day everyday running around small beach towns, but after 5 months in Sayulita there came a point when I got tired of the same day to day and craved something more exciting.
Enter, Mexico City. The destination that has something new around every corner, from mouth watering street food, eclectic locals, contrasting musicians, 150+ museums and powerful culture.
Throughout this article I will walk you through 5 of the best places to live in Mexico City and which district best fits everything on your travel check list!
1. Condesa

I lived just on the outskirts of Condesa my last month living in Mexico City. Condesa and Roma are very similar in progressive lifestyles, but both hold very specific vibes. Condesa's fluid and comfortable neighborhood reeks greenery and lively young people on almost every corner.
Although Condesa is smack in the middle of the hustle bustle, it still remains a pretty chill and laidback area to live and enjoy your time in the city. It is worth saying getting around this city is extremely easy. They have access to city bikes you can rent daily, weekly or monthly at an extremely cheap price and you can explore the entire vicinity with little to no issues.
Noteworthy Restaurants: Lardo, Nonna, Mercava, and Xel-Ha Bar.
2. Roma

Welcome to the hottest neighborhood for remote workers and young professionals. Roma is split into two sections, Roma Norte the young, loud and rambunctious section and Roma Sur the mellow, laidback and more family focused.
Roma Norte is probably the most popular part of the city that outsiders want to get a piece of. Strolling through Roma Norte the streets paint an up and coming modern feel while still showcasing the traditional Gothic and Renaissance architecture in certain areas. With the rise in travelers and expats planting roots in this region, cost of living has exponentially grown but to me it is all worth the extra coin.
With so much to offer, you don't even need to stray from the area. Norte is one of the safest neighborhoods in the city so you don't have to worry about walking around or exploring on your own. Getting through all the restaurants on Obregon street alone will take you months, and taking a stroll through Parque España will keep you busy!
Noteworthy Restaurants: Panderia Rosetta, Blanco Colima, Mercado Roma, Galanga, Páramo, Cafe Toscano
3. Polanco

If you've got the extra coin, residing long-term in Polanco might be your next big move. Best know for its high end shopping and dreamy cocktail bars, this area will bring your Carrie Bradshaw fairytale to reality. What it lacks in traditional culutre, it makes up for in style and chic.
A must must MUST is Bosque de Chapultepec. This park is the largest park in Mexico and has endless things to see and do. From the Chapultepec Castle to the boat Cinema in the middle of the lake, this destination will wow you from every angle.
When it comes to safety, Polanco falls into the same category as Roma and Condesa. These particular places are flooded with opportunity and travelers willing to spend a few extra dollars on a nice place so majority of residents are business professionals and international travelers.
Noteworthy Restaurants: Pujol, Tori Tori, Dulce Patria, Blanco Castelar
4. Juarez

If you are a penny pincher like myself, Juarez is still an extremely safe place to plant roots while still close enough to all the fun stuff in the more poppin' zones. It is an up and coming neighborhood so I'm sure a few years down the line cheaper housing in this area might not be an option. But for now, get on it!
While traveling Mexico City most people look for those hole in the wall joints that will blow your mind, Juarez is still that neighborhood that hasn't been consumed by the modernity and still holds the traditional Mexican flare. So, just a stroll through this area and a quick stop at a local taqueria will never disappoint.
Noteworthy Restaurants: Just take a walk!
5. Centro Historico

By bar the most historic area you will visit in Mexico City. Crawling with people Centro Historico holds a very special place in locals and travelers hearts. If you are looking for a real traditional city feel and love the hustle, this is your spot. Centro Historio is extremely affordable to live in, simply because majority of people living in the area are generations of Mexican families.
This specific are is not very popular to people looking to work remotely from Mexico because of how busy and loud it is. But, there is an endless amount of things to do and see in this district. So it really depends on the flavor you are looking for!
Be careful when deciding to plant roots here, is it still a popular destination but not a place that has seen much progression in comparison to the other destinations noted in this article. So when walking around this area be on high alert.
Noteworthy restaurants: Balcon del Zocalo, Terraza, Azul Historico
Circling Back
The options are endless! There is a district to fit every mold and personality. Whether you're looking to party all night or recluse into work and eat your way through the city, Mexico City has everything your little heart desires. When you're looking to work remotely in Mexico, these districts are everything.
